Undergraduate Thesis: Computational Modeling of Biomechanics of Bone around Oral Implants (Grade: 20/20; 171 Pages) [Presentation]
Adviser: Prof. Mahmoud Kadkhodaei Description: Almost all of the previous studies on numerical analysis of the implant-bone interactions and implant geometrical characteristics suffer from either one or both assumptions of bone isotropy and full/no degrees of osseointegration. Furthermore, even in the few other studies which model an anisotropic bone, only the von-Mises stress that is not sufficient for an anisotropic material analysis is debated. Thus, the literature outcomes under such unreal fundamental assumptions are not dependable and need to be evaluated. In a finite element analysis, we considered various partial osseointegration conditions and an anisotropic bone to carry out a more real and applicable simulation. The amounts of stress and strain in a peri-implant bone induced by occlusal load were investigated, and the effects of different implant thread designs on stress distribution and micro-motion in the supporting structure were examined. In this regard, various tools (the von Mises equal stress, anisotropic stress components, pressure, different shear stresses, and micro-motions) were employed for analyzing the outcomes.
